HON SAMUEL ABU JINAPOR CELEBRATES THE CONTRIBUTION OF NORTHERN GHANA TO THE ATTAINMENT OF GHANA’S INDEPENDENCE https://northernghananews.com/2024/03/20/hon-samuel-abu-jinapor-celebrates-the-contribution-of-northern-ghana-to-the-attainment-of-ghanas-independence/ https://northernghananews.com/2024/03/20/hon-samuel-abu-jinapor-celebrates-the-contribution-of-northern-ghana-to-the-attainment-of-ghanas-independence/#respond Wed, 20 Mar 2024 11:50:00 +0000 https://northernghananews.com/?p=4796 He celebrated heroic sons of Northern Ghana including Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali, Jatoe Kaleo, J. B Fuseini, A. A. Braimah, and Abamba Adam.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor has eulogized the unwavering contributions of Northerners to the overall fight for Ghana’s Independence.

Detailing Ghana’s pre- and post-colonial happenings in parliament, the Damongo legislator courteously stitched the historical facts and key personnel as well as their roles in building Ghana’s democracy.

He celebrated heroic sons of Northern Ghana including Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali, Jatoe Kaleo, J. B Fuseini, A. A. Braimah, and Abamba Adam.

The rest are Mumunie Dimbie, Mumuni Bawumia, E. A. Mahama, S. D Dombo, I B Braimah, and Abayifaa Karbo among others.

Honourable Abu Jinapor highlighted the multifaceted roles of religion, chieftaincy and culture in solidifying the stance and gains of these heroes.

He stated that “Yesterday, 19th March, 2024, as Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency, I made a landmark statement in Parliament on the contribution of Northern Ghana to the attainment of Ghana’s independence and the evolution of her democracy.

The then Northern Territories, which was made up of present day Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, and parts of Bono East Regions, and which provided routes and converging markets to Sudan and the Sahel, was originally isolated from Gold Coast Politics, as a result of policies implemented by the colonial government. Since its direct involvement in Gold Coast politics, however, northern Ghana and her people have contributed immensely to the attainment of our independence and the consolidation of our democracy.

The names are too many to mention. But, happily, today, the Gold Coast Colony, Ashanti, the Northern Territories and Togoland under United Kingdom Trusteeship (or British Togoland), have become one independent and peaceful Ghana due to the toil and blood of our forebears from all parts of our country.

As we celebrate 67 years of independence, let us continue to extol the sacrifices of our forebears, and work together as one people to unleash the much-needed prosperity for our people”
